Ally McCoist stunned Jeff Stelling and Shebahn Aherne by admitting he would rather Rangers win the Champions League than have his son play for the first team.

The Gers have only ever lifted one European title in its history, one only the older supporters will remember, having won the 1971/72 European Cup Winners' Cup.

While Philippe Clement's side had a chance of playing Champions League football this season, they were unable to bypass Dynamo Kyiv in the qualifiers and are now playing in the Europa League.

In a game of Would you Rather live on talkSPORT [26 November, 7:24am], McCoist chose the Champions League option over his son, to which Stelling said: "I'm shocked, Ally! Family first...

McCoist added: "I think he'd rather that right now too! He'd be sitting next to me. Having seen him play recently, I don't think there's any chance of that happening."

Rangers to win the Champions League in the next five years?

Fans suggesting that the Light Blues have any chance of lifting the Champions League trophy in the next five years will likely be laughed at, especially with the ongoing chaos at Ibrox.

The Gers have featured regularly in Europe over the past few decades, reaching two Europa League finals since the 2000s, and would not be a feat that is out of the question now.

Despite a torrid start to the Scottish Premiership campaign, with an 11-point gap opening up on Celtic, Clement's side have looked far more comfortable in European competition.

Of course, they will be truly tested with upcoming clashes against Nice and Tottenham but wins over Malmo, FCSB and Olympiacos may have restored a little faith in the manager.

The Belgian is unlikely to keep his job at Ibrox for much longer, especially with changes finally being made in the boardroom, but he could help himself with an exciting run in Europe.
