Ally McCoist 'genuinely devastated' after what he has seen at Rangers
Ally McCoist has been left devastated by "unbelievably poor" recruitment choices at Rangers over the last few seasons.
The former Gers striker delivered his verdict after Philippe Clement's side were controversially knocked out of Champions League qualifying, losing 2-0 to Dynamo Kyiv in a second-leg clash at Hampden Park.
With the Scottish club still attempting to recover from the money wasted by Michael Beale last summer, Clement and Nils Koppen have been searching for cheaper alternatives, but the squad is still lacking.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (19 August, 9:55am), McCoist said: "At this moment in time, Rangers are not a Champions League team. Nobody can argue that.
"It is worth mentioning we saw one of the worst refereeing decisions I've seen in years, which did have an influence on a game of such importance. That aside, Rangers are short at this moment in time.
"There's no way they'd handle the Champions League. I am genuinely devastated by what's going on at my club. The recruitment in recent years, goalkeeper and [Dujon] Sterling aside, has been unbelievably poor. They've given money for people to spend that, quite frankly, haven't spent it very wisely."

With Clement and Koppen working on a shoestring budget this summer, the pair have done well to bring in as many talents as they have done, including the likes of Oscar Cortes, Connor Barron and Robin Propper.
The hope will be that all transfers, whether permanent or temporary, will be unearthed gems by the end of the 2024/25 campaign, with Vaclav Cerny already proving to be a talent in a Gers shirt.
While crashing out of the Champions League qualifying rounds will already be a big enough blow by itself, missing out on a potential extra £25million in funds is even bigger for the Scottish club this summer.
The exits of Sam Lammers to FC Twente and Connor Goldson to Aris Limassol have helped provide some extra cash for a new signing or two, but Clement is still unable to splash out on a big-name star.
Recruitment remains a problem at Ibrox, with Beale's signings of Lammers, Jose Cifuentes, Todd Cantwell and Kieran Dowell continuing to haunt the Gers this summer.
