Aiden McGeady says what would happen if Rangers 'Rolls Royce' Olwethu Makhanya was a Celtic player

Olwethu Makhanya has enjoyed an outstanding start to his Rangers career.

Rangers signed the South Africa defender in a £3million deal from Philadelphia Union during the transfer window.

Makhanya penned a four-year deal at Ibrox, with the option to extend that by a further 12 months.

The 22-year-old has hit the ground running for Rangers, and has already become a crucial member of Derek McInnes' starting XI.

Makhanya has been hugely influential in helping Rangers secure back-to-back Old Firm victories over Celtic.

And former Bhoys winger Aiden McGeady has been hugely impressed by what he has seen of Makhanya.

Rangers signed as many as 14 players during the summer transfer window, in a huge Ibrox rebuild.

At just £3m, Rangers appear to have found an absolute bargain the South Africa centre-back.

Already there are fears that Makhanya could draw interest from elsewhere given how well he has performed early doors at Ibrox.

McGeady was discussing Makhanya on the Go Radio Football Show, as the fall out from Rangers' 1-0 win at Celtic Park continues.

The former Celtic attacker thinks that Martin O'Neill's side would not be having the same issues they have had in recent games if Makhanya were with the Bhoys instead.

"I thought Makhanya was outstanding, I thought Makhanya was an absolute Rolls Royce," he said.

"He's one of those players if he was in the Celtic team there's no problem, nothing is getting past him."

Do Rangers have an Olwethu Makhanya problem?

Rangers really do look to have found a gem in Makhanya.

He has been simply outstanding for the Gers, and is forming a blossoming partnership with Emmanuel Fernandez.

Fernandez's own spot in the team had been under question, but with Makhanya alongside him there are signs of a really strong partnership.

The problem Rangers could have is that his impressive performances are bound to draw admiring eyes from elsewhere in Europe.

But, with a four-year contract signed, at least Rangers should be relatively well protected if the big boys come sniffing.

Hopefully he can stay at Ibrox for some time yet, though, because he really is an outstanding defender.
