Rangers are still hoping that Youssef Chermiti can return from injury as soon as possible.

The striker joined the Bears last year in a £10million move from Everton, but things didn't get off to the best start for him.

He was perhaps a victim of Russell Martin's poor football, but Danny Rohl's appointment saw him become one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership.

Derek McInnes was looking forward to working with Chermiti this season, but the 22-year-old suffered a devastating ACL injury just three games into the season.

The ex-Portugal U21s is in a race against time to get back fit before the end of he season, as he's currently predicted to return to action in late April.

Even when Chermiti returns, will he be the same player he once was for Rangers?

Chermiti has been backed to become a superstar, whether that be with Rangers or someone else.

The striker showed his raw talent last season, scoring two hat-tricks and an unforgettable overhead kick against Celtic.

There was plenty of interest in the former Everton prospect in the summer, with several teams across Europe contacting the Gers for their prized asset.

Rangers even rejected a £22million bid for Chermiti from Galatasaray in August, right before he suffered his cruel injury blow.

But that's just one of the reasons why the Bears will be gutted.

As seen in the image above, Chermiti visited the Ibrox Community Complex recently, featuring in the Rangers Charity Foundation's employment programme.

His right knee is visible, and so is the massive scar that can be seen post-operation.

Seeing it for the first time really hits home about how serious an injury it is for the young forward; stories of other top-class talents who have suffered a similar injury and gone on to lose their potential are really saddening.

There are no guarantees that Chermiti comes back the same player for Rangers.

How Chermiti could still be 'difference maker' for Rangers after ACL blow

In some ways, Rangers fans may believe that Chermiti's injury has helped McInnes get the best out of the other strikers at the club.

Ryan Naderi and Kevin Kelsy are currently complementing each other very well in the Bears' forward line, with their physicality a key reason for recent success at Ibrox.

As per Read Rangers, Charlie Adam once labelled Chermiti a potential "difference maker", and he could still be that even after injury.

There's a good chance that Chermiti loses some explosiveness and speed, but if he can adapt his game and become more of a target man, he has all the other traits needed to succeed.
