Mohamed Diomande suffers gruesome shoulder injury at Rangers, may be out for season

Mohamed Diomande may require surgery after potentially dislocating his shoulder at Rangers against Celtic in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup.

The Cote d'Ivoire international started in the quarter-final defeat at Ibrox but was replaced at the break and subsequently missed the trip to Paisley as the Gers beat St Mirren.

It's feared that the midfielder's "gruesome" injury could possibly require going under the knife, according to Record Sports.

Danny Rohl has relied on Diomande in recent weeks, but the news outlet reports on 17 March that, in the worst-case scenario, he would miss the rest of the season.

Diomande's shoulder is suspected to have popped out of the joint during the Old Firm derby.

It's been claimed that even if scans show that the injury is less severe, a partial dislocation could still mean that the Ivorian star won't be available until after the upcoming international break.

The Gers are going into the final eight games of the campaign two points behind Hearts and one behind Celtic.

Rohl will undoubtedly be disappointed to be without Diomande for an extended period.

The 23-year-old hasn't hit the heights of last season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the league this term, but it must be noted that Rohl has played him in a deeper role alongside Nicolas Raskin on several occasions.

In the coming days, the German manager will surely give an update on the midfielder's situation, but the signs don't look encouraging.

Kevin Thomson gives encouraging Connor Barron update

With Diomande out, Rangers will be keen on Connor Barron's return, with the Scottish star out of action since January.

Speaking on The Breakdown with Charlie Mulgrew on 16 March about the midfielder, Kevin Thomson said, "I did hear through the grapevine that he was available for selection last week or the week before."

Rohl brought Barron on as a substitute against St Mirren, but he may now have to rely on him in the starting lineup due to another injury blow at Ibrox.

Tochi Chukwuani, Raskin and the Scot should be the trio in the engine room going forward as the Glaswegian outfit look to end the season on a high.
