Rangers have fallen over £20million behind Celtic after failing to qualify for the Champions League, according to Kieran Maguire.

The football finance expert reported to BBC Sport on 14 August that it is "essential" for the Gers to be in Europe's elite competition to be on "equal footing with Celtic". However, it is understood that a gap of up to £30million is now set to open up.

The Gers' Old Firm rivals benefit from higher commercial revenue due to Champions League matches and having a bigger stadium.

Maguire has suggested that if the Light Blues want to challenge Brendan Rogers' side financially, they need to be better in Europe.

Rangers fall behind Celtic after Champions League defeat
