Penarol midfielder Damian Garcia is unlikely to face any issues clearing his medical at Rangers, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that despite a couple of adductor or groin issues over the course of the 2023/24 season, it is not something that brings up red flags.

The 20-year-old is understood to be a transfer target at Ibrox this summer with Nils Koppen likely to have discussed a potential transfer with the chief of the Uruguayan club in Cancun, Mexico. [Football Scotland]

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

"Looks like he had a couple of adductor/groin issues but both look pretty mild so nothing to worry about, especially if he’s pain and symptom free now.

"Considering his age, a key thing to look at would be if the adductor issues are truly muscular or more of a development issue.

"For example, sports hernias are common in younger footballers.

"There are no concerns about his clearing his medical but what the club will need to look for primarily is whether or not he’s ready for the rigours of Scottish football after playing for a relatively short time at the senior level in South America."

Damian Garcia may not yet be ready for a transfer to Rangers

It's understood that the new contract the Uruguayan midfielder is about to sign will see a release clause of £7.7million added to it [Sport 890], which may put him out of the Ibrox outfit's budget.

He will be a risk due to his inexperience and lack of proven track record in top-level European football.

Rangers Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement has not been shy to splash the cash at Rangers so far this summer.

At just 20 years old, he has only played in his home country, and his performances in the under-20 World Cup, while impressive, do not guarantee success at a higher level.
