Rangers have told Hammerby that they want to sign their defender Nathaniel Adjei in the summer transfer window, according to Anel Avdic.

The Sport Expressen journalist posted on X, stating that the Gers and Belgian side Anderlecht have made contact over the centre-back.

Hammarby are said to have set a price of just over £5million to sell the defender, who spent the second half of last season on loan at French side Lorient.

Avdic suggests that the two clubs will "wait shortly" before pursuing a deal for the centre-back, with the Gers first expressing their interest in Adjei back in November 2023 [Sky Sports].

Rangers ready to pursue Nathaniel Adjei transfer

The Gers have an aforementioned long-term interest in Adjei dating back to Philippe Clement's earliest days in charge at Ibrox, and the Belgian could finally be about to get his man.

Clement is leading a massive squad rebuild at Ibrox this summer and has already given specific attention to his defence, signing Brazilian left-back Jefte and French centre-half Clinton Nsiala [Daily Record].

Adjei is only 21 himself, but unlike Jefte and Nsiala has made close to 100 first-team appearances and has played regularly for both Hammarby and recent loan side Lorient in the past few seasons.

Anderlecht will no doubt push Rangers all the way - potentially driving up Adjei's transfer fee - but given his long-term interest in the Ghanian, this move is one that Clement seems determined to get over the line.
