Rangers are closing in on a "six-figure" deal for Fluminense's Jefte, though the transfer hinges on a work permit being agreed this summer, according to Daily Record.

The newspaper reported [22 May, back page & page 51] that APOEL, the Cyprian club that the Brazilian was on loan with this season, blocked a move in January but the Gers finally look set to get their man.

It is understood that Jefte will be replacing Borna Barisic at left-back, who is set to end his six-year stay in Scotland as a transfer to Trabzonspor looms, though the player needs a work permit first.

Rangers to sign Jefte in Ibrox rebuild this summer

It looks as though Philippe Clement has finally got his preferred full-back ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, and Jefte seems to only have eyes for a move to the Scottish Premiership.

Though APOEL had the first option to sign the 20-year-old on a permanent transfer, the player made it very clear that Ibrox was his preferred destination, which will be a huge relief at the club.

Barisic looks to be on his way out this summer, with Trabzonspor calling, while Ridvan Yilmaz's future is highly uncertain after being heavily linked with a move to Galatasaray in January.

Of course, if both current left-backs were to leave, Clement would require more than just Jefte. However, it is a good sign that the club have already begun their search before the summer transfer window has opened.

Rangers, Jeft, Daily Record article

Rangers have suffered from their fair share of injuries this season, and though that should not be used as an excuse for missing out on the Scottish Premiership title, squad depth will be key next season.

With Jose Cordoba also set to join the Gers this summer, the Ibrox faithful have every right to be excited about the rebuild under Clement's reign.
