Al-Ettifaq are not considering a transfer move for Rangers captain James Tavernier this summer despite rumours suggesting so, according to Ben Jacobs.

As per Daily Record [24 April], the super-rich Saudi Arabian club, led by former Gers manager Steven Gerrard, are said to be interested in adding the full-back to their squad this summer.

However, speaking to Sky Sports Scotland on Monday (29 April), Tavernier stated that rumours circulating about his future at Ibrox are just rumours and that he is committed to his current contract.

Jacobs has doubled down on that view, taking to X on Monday, writing: "Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq are not considering Rangers’ James Tavernier despite some suggestions."

Could Rangers lose James Tavernier this summer?

Despite being 32 years of age, the Englishman is still a vital part of the Rangers squad and continues to lead by example under Philippe Clement's guidance.

Since signing from Wigan Athletic in June 2015, Tavernier has written himself into the Rangers history books over the last nine years, making 455 appearances for the Scottish club.

The full-back has notched 125 goals and 127 assists in that time and is only 57 goals short of joining the club's top-10 goalscoring list of all time.

While Tavernier is still seen as an integral part of Clement's squad, some have suggested that it could be time for the Gers to move on and begin a rebuild under the Belgian's guidance.

The veteran has started to show signs of flaws seeping into his football, which has been evident in recent weeks as Rangers attempt to pip Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title.

If Al-Ettifaq were to offer a handsome fee for the right-back, it could be difficult for Rangers to turn the offer down. Although, it seems like any interest is just rumour at this point.
