Rangers, Celtic Leeds United, Sunderland and a host of teams have been credited with an interest to sign Hammarby defender Nathaniel Adjei.

The Sun reported on 6 November that both Gers and Celtic are keen on securing his services while Leeds United have also been linked with the 21-year-old.

However, according to the Sunderland Echo on Monday (20 November), the Black Cats are unlikely to prioritise a move for him in January.

Good news

The fewer teams that are in the race to sign the Ghanaian centre-back, the better it is for Rangers.

The 21-year-old stands over six feet tall and will strengthen the back line considerably - which is the Achilles heel for the club.

Despite the modern game moving to a more technical approach, a defender's height is crucial for aerial duels, set-piece defending, and overall defensive solidity.

Rangers

A tall defender possesses an advantage in winning headers, both defensively and during attacking set-pieces, contributing to a team's defensive resilience and offensive threat.

This physical attribute aids in thwarting opposition crosses and high balls, enhancing the team's ability to control the defensive box.

Philippe Clement would certainly not mind a no nonsense player at the heart of his defence and given the fact that Adjei's only 21, means that he can be viewed as a long-term fix at Ibrox.
