Rangers will sack Philippe Clement if they lose to Dundee United after the Old Firm defeat against Celtic, according to Craig Moore.

The Light Blues slipped five points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Premiership title race heading into the September international break following their 3-0 defeat at Parkhead on Sunday (1 September).

Although the Gers only handed Clement a new contract at the start of the season, Go Radio pundit Moore has agreed with one supporter that the Belgian will be under "huge pressure" if he loses the first game back after the break.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (1 September, 25:50) the supporter said: "I think two weeks on Sunday night, if he doesn't beat Dundee United, he'll be gone."

Moore responded: "Again I can't disagree, there's huge, huge pressure."

Will Rangers sack Philippe Clement after Old Firm defeat v Celtic at Parkhead?

While the Gers' decision to hand Clement a new contract appears to have been a statement of intent that they are ready to stand by the Belgian, it won't take much for the pressure to build on him and calls for his sacking to begin.

Since his appointment last year, Clement has not only been unable to pick up a win against the Hoops, but he has seen his side played off of the park by Brendan Rodgers' side repeatedly.

There are much bigger issues than the manager at the football club currently and sacking him won't see Rangers immediately leapfrog Celtic in the title race, but his position will be the first to come under pressure if results don't begin to pick up.

Barring an excellent display over Ross County, who were absolutely awful at Hampden Park, the Gers have looked off of the pace and uninspired so far this season, both in the league and Champions League qualifying.

Whether or not that truly is the manager's fault is open to debate, but he is the man who will ultimately have to pay with his job. He has to turn this around sooner rather than later.

If he doesn't against Dundee, it wouldn't be a shock if Moore's prediction came true and he was relieved of his duties quickly after the international break.
