Motherwell match-winner breaks out Rangers tribute after goal to beat Hibs at Easter Road

Andy Halliday paid tribute to his former Rangers teammate Alfredo Morelos after scoring the winner for Motherwell at Hibs.

The ex-Ibrox midfielder netted the winner in a 2-1 victory at Easter Road on 5 October before doing the Colombian striker's trademark celebration, with footage posted on X by a fan.

Halliday spent five years as a Light Blues player between 2015 and 2020 before joining Hearts, with El Bufalo alongside him from 2017.

Hibs lost a tight game against Rangers 1-0 on 29 September and probably won't have enjoyed further Gers reference in defeat a week later.

The Morelos celebration used to be a regular sight in the Scottish Premiership as the ex-Ibrox star scored 76 top-flight goals in his time in Glasgow.

Things fizzled out at the end of his Gers career and, now on loan at Atletico Nacional in his home country from Brazilian side Santos, he hasn't really found his best since.

Philippe Clement would love to have a Morelos in his prime in the current squad, where Cyriel Dessers has regularly been the only striker available to him.

The Nigerian international is hugely inconsistent, and while he puts in some excellent performances and scores his fair share of goals he has never been as much of a threat as the man he nominally replaced two summers ago.

Endless injuries at Ibrox hasn't helped the situation as Dessers has often been the last man standing, to his credit, with Danilo in particular having a nightmare time.

But after Morelos left on a free transfer in 2023, and for at least a year before that, the club are still arguably searching for his true replacement.
