Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers has been called out by Neil McCann for a "scrubby" incident in the first half of the clash with Ross County.

Philippe Clement's side headed into the break at Hampden Park 2-0 up on Saturday (24 August) thanks to first-half goals from the Nigerian forward and exit-linked winger Rabbi Matondo.

Although Dessers has been in excellent form so far this season, BBC pundit McCann was quick to criticise the striker for his "untidy" and "loose" play outside of the penalty area.

Speaking on BBC Radio Radio Scotland Extra (24 August, 15:20) he said: "He has scored big goals and he has a good goal return.

"There are elements of his game that are very, very loose, I've used the word scrubby.

"I think he's just untidy, his link play needs to be much, much better, but his runs are brilliant and so many times he just doesn't take the chances that come his way.

"But you can't argue already this season that he has scored some important goals."

Will Cyriel Dessers exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer speculation?

McCann has managed to perfectly sum up Dessers in a handful of words with his latest comments. Yes, the forward's goal return is excellent, but his hold-up play and work outside of the penalty area leaves so much to be desired.

It feels as though the Nigerian forward would be lethal in a two-man strike force where his partner did all the work outside of the penalty area and he just had to find the net and operate within the penalty area.

Cyriel Dessers
Cyriel Dessers scored 22 goals in all competitions during his first season at Rangers.

Ultimately, if he was a complete centre-forward, he wouldn't be playing for Rangers at this stage of his career.

The Light Blues' current financial and footballing position means they're unlikely to sign complete players.

The first half of Saturday afternoon's clash shows that Clement simply cannot afford to sanction his sale this late in the summer.
