Barry Ferguson believes Philippe Clement will remain the Rangers manager for the "foreseeable future" despite huge pressure at Ibrox.

With nine points separating the Gers from Celtic and Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, slipping up to the Dons and Kilmarnock recently, water is rising around the Belgian's ankles.

Fans are becoming more frustrated with their side's current form, even taking banners to games to voice their opinions on the manager, but John Gilligan has continued to defend his manager.

Speaking via the Go Radio Football Show [6 November], Ferguson said: "In terms of the manager, I think he's here to stay for the foreseeable future. I honestly believe that.

"John Gilligan has mentioned it on a few occasions. They just have to ride it and see what happens over the coming months."

Could Philippe Clement remain as Rangers manager until the end of the season?

It is understood that Clement was just 45 minutes from being sacked after Motherwell took a 1-0 lead in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park recently [Tam McManus].

That is hardly a surprise considering the amount of pressure on the Belgian's shoulders this season, but he may have bought himself a little bit more time after the turnaround against Motherwell.

The upcoming Europa League fixture against Olympiacos on Thursday 7 November now looks to be an incredibly vital match in the manager's future in Scotland.

Should the Gers lose in Greece, it is difficult to see how Clement saves himself from being sacked as the Light Blues drift down the Europa League table as well as struggle in the league.

However, it would be an incredibly big call for an interim manager, leaving the Gers without a captain of the currently sinking ship, but it might have to be made soon.
