Rangers received a heartfelt message from Amad Diallo after the Manchester United winger scored against his former side in their pre-season friendly.

After opening the scoring with a 39th-minute strike at Murrayfield on 20 July, the Ivorian took to X and posted a message wishing the Gers well for the new season as United won the friendly match 2-0.

Amad, spent the latter half of the 2021/22 season on loan, scoring three goals in 10 Premiership matches and playing three times as the Gers won the Scottish Cup.

The Ivorian's post said: "A real pleasure to have played against Rangers.

"I had a good time there, I wish them the best for the coming season."

Amad Diallo performance winds back the clock for Rangers fans

The pace and precision at which Amad drilled in United's opening goal gave Gers fans an insight into what they were missing out on as soon as the Ivorian went back to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022.

His half-season loan may well have been brief, but it proved memorable for both club and player as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side lifted the Scottish Cup, beating Hearts 2-1 after extra time in the final.

While Amad's major contribution to that match was a yellow card just before the hour mark, he shone in the Premiership, scoring within five minutes of his debut and proving to be a perfect impact substitute.

With the Gers keen to add attacking reinforcements to Philippe Clement's side this summer [Sky Sports, 15 July], there's no doubt they'd jump at the chance to re-sign Amad, even if only on another loan.

However, with Amad firmly in the first-team picture at Old Trafford, the chances of that happening are long gone, particularly given the transfer policy now being imposed on Clement seems to be sell-to-buy [Sunday Mail, 21 July].
