Lawrence Shankland gets new green light to seal Rangers transfer, medical now booked
Lawrence Shankland has been given the green light to complete his Rangers medical on Tuesday.
After numerous links to the club in the past, the striker now looks set to finally put pen to paper at Ibrox.
Danny Rohl’s side ended the 2025-26 season in third place after a run of four straight defeats knocked them out of the title race.
The Govan outfit had been in imperious form heading into the split, scoring goals for fun, before back-to-back losses against Motherwell and Hearts left them with a mountain to climb going into the Old Firm clash with Celtic.
Eager to add guaranteed goals up front, Rangers are now set to complete Shankland’s signing this week, with Scotland boss Steve Clarke having already given the green light for the medical.

Steve Clarke has say in Lawrence Shankland move ahead of World Cup
With his release clause triggered, Shankland is set to move to Ibrox on a free transfer.
Signing a two-year deal with a further 12‑month option, the 30-year-old will be tasked by Rohl with guiding the Gers over the line as they chase their first title since 2021.

Having agreed terms with his boyhood club, Shankland is set to sign this week.
There was, however, a slight complication, given that the Scotland squad are due to meet up on Tuesday, aside from those competing in the Premier League and Serie A.
With this in mind, national team boss Clarke has given the green light for Shankland to travel to Govan on Tuesday to complete the formalities of his deal, with a medical scheduled for Tuesday morning – as per a report from the Daily Record.
On Saturday, Scotland take on Curacao at Hampden, before a friendly against Bolivia across the pond.
After missing out on the title, Rangers fans will hope to watch their new striker at the World Cup before he hopefully adds the goals to fire the Gers over the line next term.
Is Lawrence Shankland the man to fire Rangers over the line?
Over the course of the 2025-26 season, Rangers averaged two goals per match – the highest figure in the Scottish Premiership.
However, those goals were spread across the team, and 15-goal striker Youssef Chermiti was far from clinical at times.
In a Hearts side that was much more solid but lacked the same level of chance creation, Lawrence Shankland still managed to score 16 league goals.

Rangers, by contrast, created over 30 more big chances – 126 compared to Hearts’ 91.
In a team that creates as much as Rangers do, the experienced striker could be exactly the player to fire them over the line, becoming the focal point of their attack in the final third.
Rangers can outscore anyone on their day, but they need someone to consistently finish the chances they create – and Shankland could well be that man.
