Russell Martin to run scared from UK football as European talks begin after Rangers shocker
Russell Martin is continuing talks as he looks for a new job after leaving Rangers.
The ex-Scotland international was a controversial appointment when he came in at Ibrox last summer after weeks of managerial speculation.
Davide Ancelotti was strongly linked with a move from Real Madrid, but it was ultimately the former Southampton man who was picked in G51.
Things worked out pretty much as expected for the 40-year-old as he was sacked within four months of taking over in Govan.
Martin is still without a managerial role, but could be on his way to the continent rather than risking a further reputation blow in the UK.

Russell Martin opens talks over Spain move
There just isn’t much positive to say about the former Swansea City boss after his short spell in the Scottish Premiership.
After a 29 per cent win rate, he was moved on and ultimately replaced by Danny Rohl, who’s had ups and downs of his own.

The German looks set to remain in the dugout moving into the new campaign, but for now, Martin is without a job.
That could be set to change after Alan Nixon reported on Sunday that the ex-Gers boss has been in Italy and Spain to speak to clubs over a head coach role.
His contacts have lined him up with meetings that could end with a job in Europe, despite hope from Leicester City and Watford to land his signature.
Martin continues to be ridiculed by Rangers fans after his dismal spell in G51, something which won’t be made better by running scared away from football in the UK.
Martin ruined his reputation at Rangers
The problem with the former Scotland defender is that he left a deeply negative impression during his short time at Ibrox.
That has resulted in him going from a Premier League boss with Southampton to being linked with Leicester in League One.
He may set his stall higher than that with a move to the continent, but it isn’t clear what level he would be going in at right now.
This is only the latest piece of evidence that his Ibrox spell has damaged his career prospects to the point where moving away from the UK may be his only option to rebuild his reputation.
Running scared may also show that he isn’t willing to take a further risk at somewhere like Leicester, where the challenge is going to be massive.
