Rangers could actually sign Lawrence Shankland for nothing after strange contract reveal
Lawrence Shankland to Rangers is already becoming the transfer story of the entire summer.
It will be a case of here we go again at Ibrox, after several failed attempts to sign the striker, who is very publicly a lifelong Gers supporter.
After disappointment in the final hurdle of the Scottish Premiership title race, Shankland now looks set to join Rangers, who want a quick deal done before the World Cup.
Danny Rohl has made his move and looks set to be backed by Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers, moving towards the summer transfer window.
Rangers mean business again in the transfer window, and it’s desperately needed.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Lawrence Shankland could join Rangers for free
Ewen Cameron is well known for his STV shows and outlandish opinions, which came to light even more during Hearts’ push for the title last season.
Funnily enough, he wasn’t laughing on Saturday, when news broke of Rangers pushing hard to sign Shankland from his supported club.
Now, he has even suggested that Shankland’s new three-year deal last summer was actually a one-year agreement with the option for a further two at Tynecastle.
To add to that, Cameron went on to say that the striker won’t take that up, and Rangers have made their move, meaning it could actually cost them nothing.
How true is Lawrence Shankland contract clause?
It is pretty unheard of to have a two-year option in a contract, so, naturally, a lot of scepticism has been noted around these suggestions.
Derek McInnes was desperate to keep Shankland at Hearts with him last summer when he was out of contract, so settling on that would appear strange.

If it is there, Hearts and McInnes can do nothing as Rangers make their swoop.
Joel Sked of the Hearts Standard simply noted a contract until 2028 in his reporting of Rangers’ interest, so there are already contrasting reports.
Either way, the confusion surrounding his status at Tynecastle will only help Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers, who will be looking to use anything in their favour to get a deal over the line.
In contract or not, everything points towards Shankland becoming a Rangers player very soon.
