Andrew Cavenagh reveals lessons learned as Rangers fans finally get their transfer wish
Rangers supporters look set to finally get their wish as it seems that Andrew Cavenagh and Co have learnt their lesson.
The new majority ownership presided over a dismal campaign, that saw the Gers fall short of the Scottish Premiership by 10 points.
One of the major criticisms directed at the Govan club was the lack of Scottish talent in the squad, and it looks like they are going to try and address that and give fans their transfer wish.
Connor Barron and John Souttar are the only Scottish players who have featured on a regular basis for Danny Rohl’s side.
Rangers need to add more homegrown players, who know what it means to play for the Glasgow giants if they are to make up the required ground.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
What did Cavenagh say about Rangers transfer business?
Rohl has called for more leaders in the Rangers squad, but he also needs more players with Scottish Premiership experience.
It seems that Cavenagh and Co recognise the issue, after comments that the American businessman made in a recent interview.
Addressing transfer plans for the summer, he said: “We have a pro-Scottish bias in the club today.
“Meaning, if you have two players roughly equal and one is Scottish then we will take the Scottish player.
| Scottish players to feature for Rangers this season (league) | Appearances |
| Connor Barron | 27 |
| John Souttar | 24 |
| Findlay Curtis | 10 |
| Aiden McCallion | 1 |
| Ashton Scally | 1 |
“When we look at what positions we are filling we don’t start with people, we start with profiles.
“What positions is it, what type of person is it.
“An athletic centre-back or a ball-winning centre-back for example. How big, how fast?
“And we are always asking who is Scottish that fits that profile.
“Every time, we are looking at that.”
Which Scottish players could Rangers target?
There will be several Scottish players that the Gers will have their eye on already.
Lawrence Shankland will inevitably be linked again, and they should go all out to secure the Hearts hitman, who scored 13 league goals in 24 matches this season.

They have already monitored Dundee defender Luke Graham ahead of a potential summer swoop for the Dens Park star.
While he was born in England, Elliot Watt is a Scottish young international, and is another player who bolster the Light Blues’ squad.
It is too late to bring in the likes of Lennon Miller and Lewis Ferguson, who were previously linked with, as they have already secured moves abroad.
It is a fine balance, as clearly, foreign exports can work, we have seen plenty succeed at Rangers, such as Brian Laudrup, Jorg Albertz, and more recently, Vaclav Cerny and Nicolas Raskin, but they definitely need more Scottish talent.
They should build a homegrown core that they can rely on, with a few from outside of the country for added support.
