Kieran Wright confirms Rangers exit with emotional message as 17-year Ibrox stint ends
Kieran Wright has announced that he will be leaving Rangers this summer, after penning a moving message to his Instagram account.
With his contract expiring this summer, Wright will now head for the free agent market.
Joining Rangers as a 10-year-old, the now-27-year-old has not been able to work his way into the number one role at Ibrox.
Indeed, he’s largely spent his time with Gers out on loan to a host of different teams, the most recent being on a seven-day emergency loan with Kilmarnock in late April this year.
However, with the 2025-26 season now in the books, Rangers’ summer transfer decisions now take priority, and they’ve evidently now reached one on Wright’s future.

Kieran Wright confirms Rangers exit with Instagram post
Wright looked unlikely to sign a new Rangers deal, given that he’s been the third-choice goalkeeper this season.
Now entering his prime years as a goalkeeper, the Stepps-born shot-stopper is sure to want to spend those playing regular football for someone.

However, up until Monday, his future at Ibrox remained up in the air, with no concrete information on whether or not he was going to remain in Govan for a while longer.
That speculation can now end, as Wright has taken to his Instagram account on Monday morning to announce his Rangers departure with a moving post.
He posted a collection of photos spanning the length of his career with Rangers from when he first joined as a boy to the present day, and he captioned it with a heartfelt message.

“I joined Rangers as a 10-year-old boy, and after 17 years at the club, it’s time to part ways,” he wrote.
“I was fortunate enough to be part of so many unforgettable moments, meet some truly amazing people, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
“But all good things must come to an end. Thank you for everything. Ginge.”
Wright deserves the chance to go and play football
After remaining extremely patient for many years, Wright just hasn’t quite been able to ascend from a backup role with Rangers.
He’s waited long enough now, and with many good years left ahead of him, finding a permanent home where he can become the number one goalkeeper is something he absolutely deserves.
Whether it’s by dropping down into the Scottish Championship or perhaps even League One, or potentially seeking a fresh challenge outside of Scotland, his Rangers exit should excite him.
It will be bittersweet though, as Wright has clearly put so much time and effort into trying to make it work at Ibrox, but it also presents him with a well-earned opportunity to go and breathe new life into his senior career.
