Jack Butland embarrassing, Thelo Aasgaard out of this world – Rangers player ratings vs Hibernian
Rangers were stunned 2-1 by Hibernian on Wednesday, with Ibrox now looking to be becoming a little toxic once more.
It was an eventful few hours for the Bears after Danny Rohl and James Tavernier had a reported “bust-up”, and the drama didn’t end there.
Martin Boyle gave Hibs the lead early, firing past Jack Butland before mocking Tavernier’s usual golf swing celebration.
Thelo Aasgaard then dispatched a world-class free kick before the break, as Hibs went on to steal victory with an 89th-minute winner from Dane Scarlett.
In the context of the Scottish Premiership, Rangers’ loss doesn’t really matter, but there were still interesting talking points from the clash.

Jack Butland is more than past his best, he looks a competition winner
Butland has been questioned at Rangers this season on more than one occasion, but is it rash to say that he’s one to blame for this year’s collapse?
Anyway, Boyle’s early strike was straight at the former Premier League man, and his attempt to keep the ball out of the net was embarrassing.
| Area of game | Stats |
| Saves | 2 |
| Goals prevented | -0.10 |
| xGOT faced | 1.90 |

The 33-year-old has been well protected for large parts of the season, and just as though this game counted for little, because that moment alone was enough for a contract termination.
Gers should have some big priorities this summer, and a new number one has to be high up the list.

It’s gotten to the point where he looks like a competition winner, and has won a giveaway to play for Gers week-in-week out without anyone batting an eyelid to how bad he’s been.
Thelo Aasgaard’s free-kick was out of this world
Aasgaard is another player who can be hot and cold for the Bears, but everyone knows he holds an ace up his sleeve when he wants to.
The former Luton Town man fired Gers back into the lead with his stunning free kick before the break, making up for a tame effort in the ninth minute.
- Aasgaard’s free-kick had an expected goal rate of 0.11
- He had five shots against the Hibees
He showed Ibrox he had it in his locker earlier in the season against Annan Athletic, but this hit may have just been that bit better.
The goal was Aasgaard’s 10th attacking output of the league season, with 13 in all competitions.
Rohl is clearly a fan of the 24-year-old, who needs to start showing more consistency next season if he is to be a success at Ibrox.
