Rangers will have massive sellable asset with transfer move for Pierce Charles
Rangers should have no doubts about signing Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles in the upcoming transfer window.
Former Ger Gareth McAuley, who coached the shot-stopper at Northern Ireland’s youth team, believes the 20-year-old has what it takes to succeed at Ibrox.
Danny Rohl has been backed to convince Charles to move to the Light Blues in the summer after working with him at Hillsborough.
The German manager put faith in the young goalkeeper during the end of his tenure in South Yorkshire and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Glaswegian outfit make a move for him after the Owls’ relegation.
Djeidi Gassama moved to Ibrox last summer and there is a possibility that the Northern Ireland international will reunite with the forward in Govan.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Pierce Charles signing a no-brainer for Rangers
Jack Butland has been the first-choice goalkeeper for the Gers over the last few seasons, but they’ll have to replace the 33-year-old sooner rather than later.
While the English shot-stopper has put in some exceptional performances for the Light Blues, some fans have been left frustrated with some of his errors at Ibrox.
Butland has arguably been one of the Glaswegian outfit’s best players this season and has retained the number one spot under Rohl.
| Statistics | Jack Butland |
| Apearances | 33 |
| Goals conceded per game | 0.9 |
| Saves | 94 |
| Penalties saved | 4/5 |
| Accurate passes per game | 21.2 (70%) |
| Team of the week | 4 |
| Average Sofascore rating | 7.08 |
Despite the England international’s success in Govan, the German manager may already have an eye on the future.
Speaking to the Daily Record on 21 April, McAuley said, “I had Pierce with the Northern Ireland Under-19’s. He gives the game a completely different dimension. People have said to me he’s too small. But I say he’s not because he’s so agile. He’s got such quick feet that he gets around the goal. And his distribution is just on a different level.
“He’s a really top player and if Rangers could get him they’d have a massive sellable asset on their hands.”
Danny Rohl has Ibrox summer transfer priorities
Liam Kelly and Kieran Wright will be out of contract at Rangers at the end of the season.
With the two backup goalkeepers possibly on their way out, the Gers will definitely need to bolster the position ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Another priority for the Light Blues is bolstering the backline, with several players set to leave when their loan spells expire.
No matter how the Glaswegian outfit end their season, Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises must show initiative to build a side capable of challenging for major honours in the coming years.
