Rangers: Darrell Currie shares new right-back signing wanted at Ibrox
Rangers are looking to reinforce their defence in the upcoming transfer window amid uncertainty over James Tavernier’s future.
Darrell Currie has revealed that the Gers are looking for a new right-back ahead of the summer, with their captain’s current contract expiring at the end of the season.
Danny Rohl has preferred Dujon Sterling in his starting lineup in recent matches, but the veteran defender has also played a pivotal role in the Glaswegian outfit’s success in the current campaign.
Tavernier has scored 14 goals and provided six assists in all competitions and the Light Blues undoubtedly owe him a lot.
With Andrew Cavenagh determined to back Rohl at the Govan side, it makes sense for them to part ways with the 34-year-old and look for a long-term replacement.

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
James Tavernier exit could backfire at Rangers
It won’t be easy for the Gers to replace someone who has made over 560 appearances for them and been influential year after year.
If it weren’t for the right-back’s goalscoring prowess, the Light Blues would undoubtedly be in a worse position going into the final five matches of the season.
In the William Hill Premiership, the veteran defender has created the most big chances in the current campaign, 17, and if it weren’t for the Glaswegian outfit’s misfiring strikers, he may have had more assists.
| Player | Team | Big chances created |
| James Tavernier | Rangers | 17 |
| Declan John | St Mirren | 16 |
| Calvin Miller | Falkirk | 14 |
| Daizen Maeda | Celtic | 13 |
Sterling is arguably better than Tavernier defensively, but the former Chelsea ace is injury-prone, while Max Aarons has been unable to live up to expectations on loan from Bournemouth, giving the Govan side a reason to keep their captain for now until they find a solid successor.
Speaking on Scottish Football Social Club on 20 April, Alan Hutton said, “[Tavernier] is not going to be a long-term solution, we all know that. Is it going to be Sterling? Are they going to bring somebody in? So they’re going to have to look through all this.”
And Currie responded, “I know they’re trying to recruit a right-back as well.”
Tuur Rommens transfer repeat needed at Ibrox
With Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz’s departure last summer, Rangers needed a new left-back and ended up signing Jayden Meghoma on loan from Brentford.
The 19-year-old Englishman has been decent for the Gers, but Tuur Rommens has shown what they’ve been missing this season.

It feels like the former Westerlo star can be the first-choice left-back for a long time to come, and the Glaswegian outfit need to find someone similar for the opposite side.
Cavenagh and the recruitment department arguably pulled off a masterstroke with the Belgium Under-21 international’s signing and fans in G51 will hope they can continue spending wisely in the summer.
