Rangers told to pay £10m to sign Jens Hjerto-Dahl in blockbuster summer deal

Rangers risk losing out on transfer target Jens Hjerto-Dahl, as competition heats up for the £10million-rated midfielder.

Rangers were linked with Tromso star Hjerto-Dahl in January but a move never came to fruition.

Earlier this year, conflicting reports emerged over whether or not Rangers would recruit the Norway Under-21 international in the summer.

A couple of months before the next transfer window opens, it would appear that Danny Rohl‘s team may not have it all their own way when it comes to the 20-year-old.

While the Gers are focusing on winning the Scottish Premiership, Rangers will be keeping an eye over the latest Hjerto-Dahl transfer developments.

Battle for Rangers target Jens Hjerto-Dahl intensifies

Not long after Rangers’ interest emerged, Hjerto-Dahl penned a long-term deal with the Norwegian club until the end of 2029.

To make matters worse for the Scottish giants, The Sun states that Wolves are trying to “hijack” a move for the rising star, who has “exploded onto the scene” this season.

They claim that Hjerto-Dahl could fetch more than £10m amid links with Hamburg and Sporting CP.

He was also credited with interest from Besiktas and Leeds United earlier this year but those links appear to have gone cold.

This season, the 6ft 4in midfielder has impressed a great deal, most notably with a hat-trick against Fredrikstad last month.

They add that a first Norway call-up ahead of this summer’s World Cup looks imminent.

Wolves may struggle to sign Hjerto-Dahl, however, as they are destined to get relegated from the Premier League this season. That could open the door for Rangers and more.

What areas do Rangers need to strengthen?

Ahead of next season, Rangers desperately need to bolster their defence, with James Tavernier out of contract, Derek Cornelius is expected to leave, and Nasser Djiga is on loan.

Rangers may have to fend off interest for midfielder Nicolas Raskin in the coming months, and their attack may need bolstering, too, particularly if Tottenham loanee Mikey Moore isn’t retained.

The Gers could do with strengthening across the pitch but whether or not that happens over the summer remains to be seen.

That, however, can wait until the end of the season. For now, Rangers are targeting their first league title since 2021.

Heading into the post-split fixtures, Rangers are the form side among their title rivals.

While Hearts have nearly been reeled in and Celtic have floundered in recent weeks, Rangers have won four on the bounce.

But that will mean little if they don’t beat Motherwell at Ibrox on 26 April.
