Rangers set to hold firm on Youssef Chermiti as PSV need to test 49ers with record sale
Rangers are not in a position where they need to sell Youssef Chermiti this summer, as an interested club, PSV Eindhoven, may need to test the 49ers with a record fee.
Chermiti was only brought to Ibrox last summer for an initial £8million fee that could rise to £10m with add-ons.
The striker started off his time in Glasgow poorly, but has since been leading the Gers in a push for the Scottish Premiership.
The Portuguese star has attracted interest from abroad in the winter window, and now PSV are said to be interested in a summer move.
However, the 49ers may only consider Chermiti’s sale if the Dutch side were to offer the Bears a fee that could break their record for an outgoing player.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Youssef Chermiti could break Rangers’ £19.6m record sale
Rangers rejected a £13 bid from Fenerbahce for Chermiti, and his recent form means the 49ers will most likely stand firm against offers in the region of any bids similar to this.
To get Andrew Cavenagh and Co. really thinking about selling the 21-year-old, PSV and other interested clubs would surely have to break Rangers’ record transfer sale.
| Rank | Player | Club joined | Fee |
| 1. | Calvin Bassey | Ajax | £19.6m |
| 2. | Nathan Patterson | Everton | £12m |
| 3. | Hamza Igamane | Lille | £9.8m |
| 4. | Alan Hutton | Tottenham | £9m |
Calvin Bassey’s £19.6m move to Ajax in 2022 stands as the Bears’ biggest sale in their history, and is a fee that any clubs may need to pay in excess of to sign Chermiti.
He is young, has the profile to become a top-quality number nine one day, and could easily cost more than £20m in today’s market.

Though the 49ers are in no real panic to make the sale, a quick profit and a record fee could entice them to sanction his exit this summer, if the right offer comes along.
This summer will be test of 49ers’ transfer model
The 49ers have surprised some Gers fans with the clear ambition they have with the club, spending over £20m in the summer, and plashing the cash one again in the January transfer window.
However, at some point, they will have to make sales to fund other signings and losses, but who they get rid of will be the real test of their ambition.

It could be that they see people like Chermiti as players they can bring in for cheaper and sell on for big profit after a season or two, and if that is their focus, fans won’t be happy.
There has been a focus on signing young players who have room to improve, but is that all down to their overall transfer strategy to then sell them off for profit?
