Neil Simpson’s book cover is absolutely disgusting and Rangers fans have every right to be furious

Neil Simpson’s soon-to-be-released book “Simmy: Tackling life With Aberdeen and Fergie” has taken a disgusting jab at the infamous tackle he made on former Rangers star Ian Durrant in 1988.

The former Aberdeen player will have his book released in May this year, and the reveal of the tagline clearly takes a hint at the horror challenge he made on Durrant.

On 24 October 1988, Rangers were playing Aberdeen at the Pittodrie Stadium ahead of a Scottish First Division match, in a high-stakes and intense atmosphere that unfortunately boiled over onto the pitch.

Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen side were known for being rough, but Simpson crossed the line when he clatered Durrant, leaving the latter injured for two and a half years.

The tackle shattered Durrant’s knee, leaving him with serious damage to his cruciate ligament, and Simpson has hit a new low by taking this swipe with his book cover.

How have Rangers fans reacted to Neil Simpson’s book cover?

Rangers fans are not happy after finding out the cover of Simpson’s book, and have unsurprisingly reacted on social media.

Durrant was one of Scotland’s most exciting players of that generation, and Simpson appears to think that ruining the former’s career was a highlight of his own.

As highlighted in the table above, through information provided by the Rangers Archives, Durrant managed to play 346 games for the Bears in 13 years.

The midfielder made his debut for Gers in April of 1985 and left just over 13 years later, making the switch to Kilmarnock.

The now 59-year-old was obviously never the same after the injury, and doing that to a 21-year-old at the time should not be celebrated by Simpson; it’s disgusting.

Durrant still watches Rangers to this day, and remains as passionate as ever about the Light Blues.

What has Ian Durrant said about tackle by Simpson?

Many have wondered if Simpson has ever said sorry to Durrant for the tackle, but no official reports have suggested that the latter has at least tried to apologise.

If anything, he’s only made the matter worse decades later with his not-so-subtle dig at Durrant and Rangers fans.

Speaking on the incident before, Durrant jokingly revealed what would happen if Simpson ever tried to apologise to him.

The former Gers star said, as quoted by Inkl: “Have I ever met Neil since? Never. I think it would be a stand-off, I think it would be a Clint Eastwood one, wouldn’t it?”

It’s a crying shame what happened, and some Gers fans are right to have their say on this terribly judged book cover.
