Danny Rohl lays out Tuur Rommens injury layoff timeframe in badly timed Rangers blow

Danny Rohl has provided some more clarity on the injury situation that has ruled Tuur Rommens out of Rangers action.

Speaking a day before Saturday’s clash with Dundee United at Ibrox, Rohl revealed an unnamed player had sustained an injury.

Rohl added that player would likely be out until the league split, but did not provide any further details at the time.

However, Rommens’ absence from the Gers’ starting line-up an hour or so before kickoff made it clear the defender was the player in question.

And Rohl has now spoken out on Rommens’ injury blow prior to the game at Ibrox.

How long will Tuur Rommens be out for Rangers?

Rommens has been superb for Rangers in their push for Scottish Premiership title glory, with his layoff coming at the worst possible time.

The 23-year-old joined Rangers from Westerlo in the winter window and has made eight appearances so far, catching the eye in pretty much each of those.

Rohl has confirmed via Rangers TV, however, that Rommens will miss at least the next two matches as he shed more light on the injury.

“Unfortunately he got a muscle injury on Thursday. It happens in football. How long he’s out, hopefully not too long. He won’t be available for a minimum of two games, then we’ll see.”

Jayden Meghoma will fill in for Rommens against Dundee and likely at least the next two matches going forward, in what is far from an ideal situation.

Rommens absence a blow but no excuses for Rangers

Losing Rommens a couple of days ahead of this match is clearly not ideal, but Rohl’s men can have zero excuses now.

Beating Dundee United is not an option. It is an absolute must.

The Gers have the chance to finally go above Hearts at the summit for the first time this campaign in what would be a massive boost.

Sure, Derek McInnes’ men will have a game in hand, but this is where the pressure really begins to show at the summit.

The hope now is Rommens is back for the first game after the league split, meaning just a two-match absence.

It is now over to Meghoma to step in and fill the void until then.
