Barry Ferguson notices something ‘very significant’ after arriving four hours early to Ibrox

Barry Ferguson noticed a different energy around Ibrox ahead of Rangers’ 4-2 win over Hearts last Sunday.

Danny Rohl has masterminded a complete turnaround at the Glasgow giants since his arrival, with squad morale noticeably improving.

The Gers moved within two points of Derek McInnes’ side as a result of Sunday’s win, as the Scottish Premiership title race heats up.

Celtic are still very much in the fight as well, though, just one point behind Rangers and three behind Hearts, with a game in hand over both.

Barry Ferguson reflects on huge change of mood at Ibrox

When Rohl took over from Russell Martin, Rangers were 13 points adrift of table-topping Hearts, and the whole club was in disarray.

Slowly but surely, the Gers boss has managed to close that gap, as well as bringing some excitement back to Ibrox.

Former Rangers player and interim manager Ferguson believes that something significant has happened between the current team and the supporters.

Speaking to the Daily Record, the 48-year-old commented on the different energy around Ibrox ahead of the Hearts game.

He said: “I was at the stadium four hours before kick-off against Hearts and I could sense the electricity building all that while. I know it sounds daft but there was a different kind of energy about the place. The kind of excitement you usually feel on a big European night.

“And that tells me something very significant has happened in terms of the relationship between this team and the supporters.”

Rangers face crucial run of games in title race

With less than two months remaining until the split in the Scottish Premiership, Rangers are really entering the crunch point of the season.

Across the next six games, Rohl’s side play just one team in the top five, taking on Celtic in the Old Firm at Ibrox at the start of March.

Rohl will hope that his side can pull clear of the Hoops during this relatively easy run and also leapfrog Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers are unbeaten in their last ten top-flight matches, with eight wins and two draws in that time, so are very much the form team in the division.

If they can continue their good run over the next few weeks, they should find themselves in a great position to win their first league title in five years.
