Andrew Cavenagh personally intervenes to get Rangers transfer over the line as new details emerge

Andrew Cavenagh played a big role in Rangers’ winter transfer business, as details about his involvement in the Ryan Naderi deal have emerged.

The German striker signed for the Gers on deadline day, where for most of the saga, it looked like the move would be made for the summer.

In the end, Rangers were able to agree on a transfer for this season, and Cavenagh was seemingly key in doing so.

Naderi’s agent, Laurent Burkart, has revealed the level of involvement that the US-based owners had, stating on The Transfer Market Podcast via Daily Record: “There were several rounds of back-and-forth discussions with the owners, who are based in the USA.

“The process was so nerve-wracking and stressful because the direction wasn’t clear until Sunday night.”

The German had been impressing in the 3.Liga, and Cavenagh was keen to bring his talents to Govan.

Why Andrew Cavenagh pushed for Naderi to Rangers

The 49ers’ involvement in the deal was crucial to getting it over the line, as there were plenty of problems arising for the Bears on deadline day.

Moves for other strikers had fallen through, and according to Burkart, it was due to “rising” prices.

With Rangers already wanting Naderi to join in the summer, Cavenagh decided to go back to Hansa Rostock to push for a permanent move instead.

Burkart said: “In the end, it was a business decision for Rangers to say: ‘Okay, we’re going back to Naderi and set ourselves a total budget with which we want to complete an immediate transfer’.

Overall, it was a decision that has so far worked out extremely well, with Naderi showing early signs of being a quality striker.

49ers intervention could hand Rangers the title

Rangers’ winter business has now put them in good stead to win the Scottish Premiership, and if Cavenagh was as involved in the other deals as he was in regard to Naderi, then that deserves some praise.

The 49ers put their money where their mouth was and delivered Rohl an exceptional transfer window, addressing key areas of weakness.

Rohl has now been given a mandate which can mount a strong challenge against Hearts, and that was clear in Rangers’ 4-2 win.

While Naderi didn’t score, his role as a striker alongside Youssouf Chermiti pushed Hearts back and made the Jam Tarts change their tactics.

No matter what happens for the remainder of the season, the Rangers owners must not rest on their laurels.

They have already shown fans their strong intent to compete in Scotland, and that level of intent must remain for future seasons.
