Tuur Rommens to Rangers transfer guaranteed after latest Danny Rohl admission

Rangers should be expected to take significant steps to sign Westerlo left-back Tuur Rommens in the winter transfer window.

The 22-year-old has been a key player for the Jupiler Pro League outfit in recent seasons and has established himself in Belgium’s Under-21 team.

Rommens is being tracked at Ibrox, with the defender on the Gers’ shortlist as they look to strengthen their squad in January.

Rohl has already held conversations with Andrew Cavenagh over recruitment, and the left-back may be on his way to Govan sooner rather than later.

Danny Rohl wants new left-back at Rangers

Rohl would like to have another left-footed full-back at the Gers in the coming weeks.

In the German manager’s pre-match press conference ahead of the Old Firm derby on 3 January, he admitted defensive reinforcements would be welcomed at Ibrox.

While the former Sheffield Wednesday boss is satisfied with James Tavernier, Dujon Sterling and Max Aarons, Jayden Meghoma could do with more competition at the Light Blues.

Rommens was recently coy about his links to Ibrox, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Glaswegian outfit to go all out for his arrival now that the window is open.

Rohl should demand that business be done quickly as he looks to put further pressure on Hearts at the top of the table, and waiting until Deadline Day on 2 February to sign reinforcements could potentially hinder the Gers’ chances of competing for the William Hill Premier League title.

Ibrox hierarchy can build Scottish core as another defender on shortlist

AEK Athens left-back James Penrice is also wanted at Rangers, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be the alternative target if they can’t get Rommens.

The 27-year-old was impressive at Hearts last season before moving to Greece in the summer.

Some believe the Light Blues have made a mistake in recent years by dismissing moves for domestic talents, and the Scottish defender could potentially be one of the players they can now build a team around.

With Meghoma only at the Glaswegian outfit on loan from Brentford until the end of the season, it would make sense for them to bolster the position.
