Steven Gerrard sends new two-word message to coach linked with returning to Rangers with him

Steven Gerrard is being heavily linked with a return to Rangers at the moment.

The boss who oversaw the Gers’ 55th Premiership title has been out of work since he left Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq back in January, but that could soon be about to change.

Gerrard is due to meet with Rangers chiefs Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe in London for talks this week, as the search to find the Govan outfit’s new manager continues to gather pace.

Talk of the Liverpudlian returning to his old post is refusing to go away, and he could be followed by some of his closest allies.

Steven Gerrard sends Tom Culshaw message on Instagram

Jermain Defoe worked as part of Gerrard’s team at Rangers previously, and he has already effectively given his seal of approval to return to Ibrox if the opportunity arises.

The former England striker worked as a coach with the Bears during Gerrard’s stint in charge, and would seemingly be ready to jump at the chance to turn back the clock.

The 43-year-old could potentially be joined in the coaching staff by the likes of Steve Holland, while Gary McAllister has also been quizzed about the possibility of rejoining Rangers.

Tom Culshaw has worked as a technical coach under Gerrard in each of his last three jobs, and he is also now in the frame to form part of the backroom team, according to Ibrox Noise.

A former youth coach at Liverpool, Culshaw is a hugely familiar face for Gerrard, and this was highlighted on Friday, when the 45-year-old sent a message to his counterpart on social media.

Steven Gerrard opportunity is too good for Rangers to turn down

Cavenagh and Marathe have overseen huge changes at Rangers in a short space of time in the last few months, and with that in mind, a return to a tried and tested method could be ideal for them right now.

Gerrard remains hugely popular among the fans, and the unity that his appointment would instantly provide simply could not be more welcome, given the explosive way that Russell Martin’s reign played out.

The Gers’ previous boss knows what it takes to have success at Ibrox, and while the squad of players that he could be about to inherit is markedly different from the one which he left, that can easily be rectified in the upcoming transfer windows.

There are plenty of other exciting candidates to take the reins step into the dugout, but none would bring the same level of positivity back to the club as Gerrard would.
