Gretar Steinsson joins Rangers new manager talks as European boss now involved
Rangers are continuing to hunt for a new manager after Russell Martin’s sacking.
Steven Gerrard is the current frontrunner, with the Liverpool legend linked with a sensational return to Ibrox.
Reports on Friday suggested that Gerrard’s move to Rangers saw all but agreed as the Gers look to wrap up an appointment before the end of the international break.
However, without it being confirmed, there are still plenty of twists and tales possible, with Gretar Steinsson now entering the talks.

Rangers are speaking to other candidates as well as Steven Gerrard
While Gerrard is the favourite to get the Rangers job at present, the Gers are still exploring other potential options.
According to a report by Sky Sports on 10 October, Danny Rohl is still one of the candidates left on their shortlist.
- Rohl was the Sheffield Wednesday manager between 2023-25
- Here, he kept the Owls in the Championship for two seasons before leaving in the summer
- Rohl has remained out of work since
The article states that while the Glaswegians are holding further talks with Gerrard, they are also speaking to other managers, with Rohl an option.
The German-born manager was sounded out in the summer before the Gers eventually appointed Martin.

Now, Steinsson, alongside Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh are holding talks with candidates in London this week.

Djeidi Gassama could hit new heights under Danny Rohl
Despite Rangers’ awful form, one star who has remained solid is Djeidi Gassama.
The winger moved from Sheffield Wednesday to Ibrox in the summer, and has scored five times for the Gers.
However, if he is reunited with his former manager Rohl, he could proceed to hit even bigger heights.
While Gerrard will be the man that many of the Ibrox faithful want, Rohl would no doubt be an excellent appointment if made.
Hopefully, a decision will be made as soon as possible to ensure that whoever comes in has as much time with the players not on international duty as possible.
