Andrew Cavenagh may have a lot of questions to answer after appointing Russell Martin as Rangers manager.

Hearts ended their 11-year winless streak at Ibrox on 13 September in the William Hill Premiership as the Gers continue to struggle under the Scottish manager.

The Light Blues are 10th in the table after four draws and one loss in the league to start the 2025/26 campaign, and fans are demanding the former Southampton boss' departure.

However, Cavenagh still has faith in Martin, with the Glaswegian outfit's hierarchy reportedly behind the 39-year-old during this demanding spell, but some supporters demand answers.

Patrick Stewart mistake with Philippe Clement won't be repeated at Rangers

It would be surprising to see someone from the Gers' hierarchy publicly back Martin, Chris Jack says.

The Scottish journalist believes that after Patrick Stewart backed and subsequently fired Phillipe Clement in a short span of time last season, the same mistake may not be repeated at Ibrox.

With the Scottish manager under extreme pressure at the Glaswegian outfit, it will be interesting to see how long he will remain in charge.

Speaking on The Rangers Review on 15 September, when asked whether supporters in G51 will get to hear from the chairman, Jack said: "I'd be surprised if they do. The last time you saw a Rangers executive or someone in a position of power at the club come about and back a manager in difficult circumstances, the manager was gone within a few days.

"We were sitting in the media room that afternoon with Stewart, and he outlined why the club were still backing Clement… That was a real blow to the reputation of Stewart, that he had to back a manager and then sack a manager in such a short space of time. So I'd be surprised if you see anyone looking to put their head above to say this is why we're backing Martin."

Kevin Thelwell should also leave with Russell Martin

Kevin Thelwell's position at Ibrox should also come under scrutiny as he has arguably been the driving force behind the Gers' business in recent months.

The former Everton sporting director played a role in appointing Martin at the Light Blues and has also overseen the recent recruitment strategy, which hasn't impressed many.

It's unacceptable for the Glaswegian outfit to find themselves in the position they are in, and Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises will undoubtedly feel the same after their £20million net spend since taking over.

Martin's record at the Gers

Rangers should look for Martin's replacement immediately, with Steven Gerrard arguably the obvious candidate to take over after his previous success in G51.

The ex-Saints boss has been unable to implement his ideas at the Gers after 12 games in charge, and they've only gotten worse under him.

At this point, many fans at Ibrox just want to see someone like Cavenagh take responsibility and sack the Scottish manager.
