Rangers suffer Mikey Moore blow v Dundee, teammate ‘needs to get fully fit’

Rangers will face Dundee in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox on Saturday.

Russell Martin’s team will host Steven Pressley’s side on 9 August as the Gers look to avoid another domestic disappointment.

Motherwell secured a point at Fir Park against the Light Blues, leading the former Southampton boss to make multiple significant changes to the starting lineup for the visit of Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Champions League.

While Nico Raskin and James Tavernier started on the bench on 5 August, they may return to the fold, but Mikey Moore will have to wait a bit longer for his debut.

Martin cautious with Hamza Igamane, Moore registration delays

It looks like Hamza Igamane still isn’t fit to feature for the Gers,

Martin revealed that the Light Blues are building the 22-year-old striker back up after he picked up a slight knock in the first leg against Panathinaikos, and he “needs to get fully fit”.

Moore’s registration at Ibrox has hit some snags, and the Glaswegian outfit will once again be without the Tottenham loanee who completed his move to G51 a few weeks ago.

Speaking to the media, as relayed by the Bears on X (8 August), Martin said: “Moore just not there, a lot of protocols need to go through for Under-18s.

“Hamza [Igamane] missed two weeks with visa issues and picked up a small injury in the first game, so we are building him back up to avoid any injuries. He is a great lad and just needs to get fully fit.”

Martin needs win v Dundee

While Martin has calmed the nerves at Ibrox after beating Plzen convincingly in the first leg of the Champions League’s third qualifying round, a lot of work still needs to be done.

The Scottish manager’s changes against the Czech outfit worked wonders, but supporters have seen similar things in the past.

In the previous campaign, the Light Blues went on an impressive run in the Europa League, but their performances domestically were underwhelming.

Rangers could progress to the Champions League group stages, but if they can’t compete with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, supporters will surely ask for Martin’s dismissal.

Dundee were in a relegation battle last season, and this is exactly the kind of fixture the Ibrox faithful expect three points from.

The ex-Saints boss has now had quite a few games to assess the Gers’ weaknesses, and struggling to beat the Dark Blues won’t be tolerated in G51.
