‘Rangers have Černý replacement’ as transfer for ex-West Brom star lined up
Václav Černý was one of Rangers’ most important players throughout last season.
The Wolfsburg loanee notched 27 goal contributions in all competitions and played a starring role in the Gers’ run to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League.
Černý was superb for Rangers in what was a largely dysfunctional team, but it appears increasingly likely that there will be no permanent Ibrox return on the cards for the Czech international this summer.
Russell Martin is clearly keen to add to his squad in the wide areas, and after missing out on the signing of Kwame Poku, the Govan outfit have now outlined another target.

Rangers want to sign Grady Diangana
It has been mooted that Rangers’ likely sale of Hamza Igamane could free up the money to buy Černý, but that still feels unlikely at this moment in time.
However, Martin’s side may have now found Černý’s replacement, as the Gers are believed to be lining up a move for former West Brom winger Grady Diangana, according to Sports Boom (7 July).
The 27-year-old’s seven-year stint at The Hawthorns came to a close at the end of June, when he departed the West Midlands outfit upon the expiry of his contract.
Diangana’s availability on a free transfer has understandably attracted interest from multiple clubs, and Rangers look set to face a battle with Portsmouth for the wideman’s signature.

Diangana would be a great signing for Rangers
Černý’s level of influence at Ibrox will be difficult to replace next term, but in Diangana, Rangers may have found someone who is capable of shouldering a similar level of the creative burden.
The Bears are also currently interested in Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, but the cost-effective nature of any potential Diangana deal should make him the prime candidate to take on the responsibility left by the departing Černý.
| Season | Apps | Goals | Assists |
| 2024/25 | 35 | 4 | 3 |
| 2023/24 | 38 | 7 | 8 |
| 2022/23 | 35 | 4 | 3 |
The DR Congo international’s influence waned at West Brom last year, but he still managed four goals and three assists from just 14 Championship starts.
Last season was a poor one by Diangana’s standards, but his tally of 15 goal contributions from the 2023/24 campaign is evidence alone that he could bring a real spark to Rangers’ attack.
Crucially, by bringing in Diangana, Rangers would be able to save a little money to reinvest into other areas of the squad. The former West Ham youngster may not be the most glamorous replacement for Černý, but he could prove to be a shrewd acquisition.
