Cyriel Dessers to ‘stay at Rangers’ after multi-million transfer latest
Cyriel Dessers has been consistently linked with a Rangers exit this summer.
The Nigerian international scored 29 goals for the Gers last season but, despite the arrival of new head coach Russell Martin, could be keen for a fresh opportunity.
Dessers is under contract until 2027, having joined Rangers from Italian side Cremonese just two years ago, with AEK Athens heavily interested.

Rangers holding firm on Dessers price
Dessers has been a force for the Gers since he arrived in 2023. The 30-year-old has netted 51 goals and provided 16 assists in just 109 appearances – almost scoring every other game.
His departure would leave a big gap in the Rangers’ attack, one which Martin will not be keen to do without in his opening season.
Combined with the potential departure of Hamza Igamane, who scored 16 goals last season and is thought to want a move to Lille this summer, the former Saints boss is faced with a tricky situation.
| Rangers attackers | Goals in all competitions (2024/25) |

| Hamza Igamane | 16 |
Dessers has reportedly already agreed on personal terms with AEK Athens, but the Greek club still need to match Rangers’ asking price if they want to get their hands on the striker this summer.
And, according to the Scottish Daily Mail (page 67, July 7), the club from the Greek capital have not come close to satisfying transfer chiefs at Ibrox yet.
Rangers’ valuation is believed to be around £6million, which is proving difficult for AEK Athens to match, with a £4.5m bid rejected in recent weeks.
Dessers was spotted at Ibrox on Sunday (July 6) as Rangers came from behind to draw 2-2 against Club Brugge, and Martin publicly shared the latest on his future following the game.
Martin will hope Dessers has a change of heart
Martin is already facing an uphill battle to hit the ground running with a Rangers team that slumped to a disappointing end to last season.
The last thing the Englishman needs is to lose his team’s talisman and top scorer, at least until a suitable replacement is found in Govan.
As long as Dessers remains at Ibrox, Martin will have the opportunity to change the striker’s mind about his future, with ambition and results likely required to convince the forward.
For now, he is going nowhere.
