Stan Collymore hits out at Sky Sports coverage of Martin appointment at Rangers
Rangers have appointed Russell Martin as manager, and it is safe to say that the announcement has garnered mixed responses.
The former Southampton head coach returns to Ibrox, where he spent a season on loan from Norwich City back in his playing career.
Ex-Rangers man Kris Boyd has backed Martin to succeed in Glasgow, after promising that he wants to put things right at Ibrox.
However, his words did not go down too well with Stan Collymore, who gave a belittling response to the 41-year-old.

Collymore slams Boyd after Martin comments
The Rangers manager saga took more twists than the Amazon River before Martin was announced.
Several names were linked with the Ibrox hotseat, with Steven Gerrard being tipped for an unlikely return to the Glasgow outfit.
However, the tussle for the position went down to a two-horse race, with Martin fighting it out with Davide Ancelotti.
Eventually, Martin was given the opportunity after impressing the Rangers hierarchy during his interview.
Many will question the former Swansea City manager’s ability, given he was sacked by Southampton early in the 2024/25 season.
| Club | Matches | Won | Drew | Lost | Points per match |
| MK Dons | 80 | 31 | 17 | 32 | 1.38 |
| Swansea City | 99 | 36 | 26 | 37 | 1.35 |
| Southampton | 73 | 34 | 13 | 26 | 1.58 |
However, former Rangers striker Boyd believes he will be a good fit and shared his thoughts with Sky Sports (5 June).
He said: “I firmly believe that this is the right appointment for Rangers Football Club and I think he’ll do really well.”
Collymore then mocked Boyd with his post: “I firmly believe that every bloke I’m asked to comment on is the right appointment for the Rangers Football Club and I think he’ll do really well”
Martin must be given time at Rangers
The Rangers’ revolution is not going to happen overnight.
Of course, the Gers have new American owners, with £20million of investment promised, but that will not bring instant rewards.
Martin is a young manager, and this will be the biggest club he has managed during his budding career.
While many will reference his forgettable Premier League spell with the Saints, they must remember he got them promoted in the first place.
Rangers and Martin must be afforded time to bring in the players they want and to develop a positive style of play, with a possession-based side likely.
That could take months, weeks, or even years, but this is the time to get behind the manager and offer him support; success should then follow.
