Robin Propper exit may be confirmed by 15 June

Robin Propper will be leaving Rangers this summer, despite joining a year ago, Ibrox News has learned.

The 31-year-old may have played 43 games in all competitions this past season, but his performances have been inconsistent.

Sources have told Ibrox News that he’s set to return to FC Twente as an agreement has been reached between Gers and the Dutch side.

Rangers must invest for the future under Russell Martin

Propper was expected to bolster Rangers’ defence with his experience and leadership as a former captain.

However, his impact at Ibrox has been underwhelming.

The 31-year-old Dutch centre-back struggled to adapt to the physicality and pace of Scottish football, often being outmuscled and outpaced by opposition forwards.

Despite making 43 appearances, his inconsistent performances and errors contributed to defensive vulnerabilities, with Gers conceding crucial goals in matches against teams like Motherwell and St Mirren.

He has arguably offered no significant upgrade over his predecessor Connor Goldson.

With Martin emphasising a high-line, possession-based style, Propper’s lack of mobility and struggles with the physical demands make him ill-suited.

Selling him this summer, potentially back to Twente for around £1million, would allow Rangers to recoup some of their investment, free up wages and pursue a defender like Ipswich Town ace Cameron Burgess, who better fits Martin’s system.

This move would strengthen the squad and align with the club’s rebuild for the 2025/26
