Rangers left-back heads to Newcastle for medical as deal agreed

Rangers have agreed a deal with Newcastle United, with a medical now booked in ahead of a potential transfer.

The Gers are set for a turbulent few months after already being taken over by Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers before announcing Russell Martin as head coach.

This looks set to kickstart a summer full of transfer business with a number of incoming and outgoing deals now looking likely at Ibrox.

Rangers agree terms over Newcastle United transfer

There is no doubt that the Gers are in desperate need of an overhaul after a hugely disappointing season, finishing miles behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

As a result, top-quality signings are going to be necessary to aid Martin in his efforts to close the gap to Brendan Rodgers’ side next campaign.

In order to fund such moves, summer sales are going to be required, and that business already looks set to be underway in G51.

This comes as Newcastle look set to sign academy star Oliver Goodbrand, with Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope reporting via X (6 June) that a deal had been agreed with the Gers.

The 16-year-old is now travelling to Tyneside to undergo a medical before completing a switch to the Premier League outfit.

This will then see the teenage left-back link up with the Magpies’ academy next season, despite interest in his signature emerging from abroad.

Goodbrand set to leave Rangers for Newcastle United

With the 49ers and Co. coming in at Ibrox, it does feel surprising that such an exciting talent would be allowed to leave at this stage in his career.

The Bears have been dreaming of young homegrown talent breaking into the first team and having a true impact, and being successful for the Light Blues.

Despite the recent emergence of the likes of Bailey Rice and Ross McCausland, there is still a demand for more youngsters to make it through.

There would have been hope for Goodbrand to be one of those players, but instead, a deal to move to Newcastle has been agreed by the G51 outfit.

It will certainly be interesting to see what sort of fee, if any, is included in this deal and whether it proved too good to turn down from Eddie Howe’s side.
