Rangers told to brace for disaster amid Paraag Marathe latest at Ibrox

Paraag Marathe and the 49ers Enterprises are still nearing their Rangers takeover as the Scottish Premiership season draws to a close.

The Ibrox giants were unable to get the better of bitter rivals Celtic in the final Old Firm derby of the season on Sunday.

Cyriel Dessers put Rangers 1-0 up against Brendan Rodgers’ men, but Adam Idah’s equaliser ensured that the Glasgow rivals had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

Rangers warned over takeover developments

Prospective owners 49ers have successfully overseen Leeds United’s promotion from the Championship to the Premier League this season.

However, that has led to claims of a conflict of interest given their association with two big-name clubs.

Rangers are in disappointing form

Writing in the Sun on Sunday’s Goals pull-out [4 May, pg 7], journalist Phil Thomas warned: “It’s alright saying he multi-club [ownership] system works for the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, but one involving Leeds and Rangers is on a different level.

“There are fewer sets of fans, or clubs, with a greater sense of entitlement than these two. Sharing an owner is a recipe for disaster.”

Rangers must finish the season in strong form

The Light Blues have endured a largely poor campaign, which is epitomised by the fact that they have not won since their 4-3 victory at Dundee on 29 March.

Most disappointingly, Rangers have failed to mount a serious title challenge and sit a whopping 17 points behind rivals Celtic, who have already been crowned as Scottish Premiership champions.

The Gers will end the season with no silverware to their name, and will hope that the imminent 49ers takeover can help them close the gap on Celtic.

But while interim boss Ferguson appears unlikely to become permanent boss at Ibrox, he will be determined to steer his side to a positive end to an otherwise poor campaign.

Rangers will be determined to beat Aberdeen on 11 May, before facing Dundee United and an in-form Hibernian in their last two games.

The Gers faithful have been left disappointed by this season’s exploits, but victories in their last three games should increase optimism ahead of next term.
