Paraag Marathe ‘to disappoint Cyriel Dessers at Rangers’ after Ibrox admission

Cyriel Dessers and his other Rangers teammates will potentially be looking over their shoulders as 49ers Enterprises’ takeover gets close.

Paraag Marathe visited Ibrox recently, and it feels like just a matter of time before Andrew Cavenagh and the US consortium complete their deal to secure controlling shares at the Gers.

The Light Blues have massive decisions to make once the Americans arrive, with Barry Ferguson’s future at Ibrox potentially top of their list.

It looks unlikely that the former Scotland international will remain at the Bears beyond this season after the 1-1 draw with Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (4 May), which may affect the futures of several stars.

Cavenagh and 49ers to revolutionise Rangers

Supporters are eager to see what the prospective new owners will do next summer, with heavy investment expected.

Marathe has done an impressive job at Leeds United, with the West Yorkshire outfit winning the Championship title, which potentially bodes well for the Light Blues.

The Gers have had some financial issues in recent years and have been unable to compete with their Old Firm rivals, who’ve won their fourth consecutive league title.

Cavenagh and the 49ers will arguably want to knock Brendan Rodgers’ team off their perch, but that’ll require some bold decisions.

Dessers sale to be sanctioned at Ibrox after takeover

Dessers has revealed his intentions to stay at Ibrox, but seeing the prospective new owners sell him wouldn’t be surprising.

The Nigerian international may be in for disappointment, with Marathe potentially opting to cash in on the striker who attracted interest from several teams in the winter transfer window.

With Hamza Igamane showing immense potential at the Glaswegian outfit this season, making him the first-choice striker would make sense.

Ferguson has relied on Dessers since taking over as interim manager, but the ex-midfielder’s exit may lead to the centre-forward’s departure from Rangers.

Speaking to the media via Record (5 May), the 30-year-old said: “Yeah, definitely [I want to stay]. I signed here with pretty clear intentions. I want to win trophies with Rangers. Stay here for a few years.”

Dessers has frustrated many fans at the Gers over the years due to his profligacy, costing the team some valuable points.

The Nigerian striker’s goalscoring numbers this season have been decent, but he’s missed several critical chances when it’s mattered the most.

Igamane sparked the Light Blues back to life midway through the season after pipping the 30-year-old in the pecking order, but his recent form has been worrying.

The former Cremonese forward could possibly be hampering the Moroccan youngster’s development, which is something the prospective new owners will seemingly not want at Ibrox.
