Rangers injury news: Rafael Fernandes return timeline revealed

Rangers defender Rafael Fernandes’ injury appears likely to be a serious concern, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that the fact that he had to be taken off mid-way during the game against Aberdeen suggests that it could be something significant.

The Portuguese centre-back had to be withdrawn in the first half after suffering a hamstring injury.

Fernandes could be spending weeks on the sidelines

In what was his first league start for Gers, having joined on loan in January, he could only last 20 minutes.

Barry Ferguson admitted that it’s a hamstring injury but shared that he did not know how serious the setback was.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, exclusively told Ibrox News: “There’s not much said by the manager apart from the fact that it’s a hamstring injury.

He had to be taken off during the game, so it is a definite concern.

Scans obviously will give a clearer indicator as to what the issue is.

The best-case scenario will be tightness, but the worst-case scenario could be something more significant that would keep him out for weeks.

Rangers have yet another injury crisis to deal with

Ridvan Yilmaz, Tom Lawrence, Dujon Sterling and Bailey Rice are also currently injured, which is adding to Ferguson’s injury crisis.

Going into the Europa League game against Athletic Bilbao, Gers are already the underdogs but will now have to deal with the lack of availability of a number of players.

While Fernandes is ineligible for that one as he’s not been registered for the competition, he could’ve offered an alternative in the league should Gers progress and Ferguson wanted to rest players.

The scans could reveal that he’s not out for that long and he could be back sooner than expected, but thus far, everything is unclear.
