Rangers have endured a miserable domestic season, and they have particularly struggled in recent weeks.

Rangers recently suffered five consecutive defeats at Ibrox for the first time, which included their Scottish Cup exit to Queens' Park.

They have been in miserable form in the Scottish Premiership despite performing well in Europe, and there is a lot of room to improve domestically.

Pundit Chris Sutton has now slammed Rangers and highlighted what their key issues are, and many Rangers fans would actually agree with him.

Sutton slams Rangers mentality and soft centre

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of Rangers' clash with Aberdeen, Sutton claimed that Barry Ferguson's side have been "weak" mentally for some time, and it is costing them dearly.

"For many years, most people would agree that Rangers have been mentally weak," he stated.

"How can you get up for the Celtic games, and the big European games, then get turned over as they have done and concede so many goals domestically as they have done.

"It's been a mentality issue for the last decade for Rangers, it's been a problem for manager after manager."

Although Sutton is far from a popular figure at Rangers, there can be no denying that the Gers have a mentality problem which goes further than any of the managers who have graced the dugout in recent seasons.

Rangers need to solve domestic mental issue

The past few weeks under Ferguson have been a microchosm of Rangers' long-term problems.

The Gers performed well and won in the Old Firm at Celtic, and away from home at Fenerbahce, but also lost at home to Hibernian in between.

There is clearly a mental problem when Rangers play at Ibrox, with a lot of squads in recent years performing better away from the pressure of the home crowd.

Rangers' players being far less motivated for league games than the big European ones is an issue which will need correcting if they are to put in anything resembling a title challenge in the Scottish Premiership.
