Rangers are no closer to knowing who their next permanent manager will be, but one candidate may now have moved up the shortlist.

Philippe Clement was dismissed in February after a dismal domestic campaign, with Rangers deciding to wait until the end of the season to appoint his permanent successor.

Barry Ferguson took the role on an interim basis, but the signs have been hugely promising, with a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory at Dundee following an Old Firm win and progression in the Europa League.

However, Rangers may wish to make a high-profile appointment, and one of their reported targets is now available.

Rangers target Rose sacked by RB Leipzig

Rangers have been linked with German manager Marco Rose, who is highly rated in his country, and they may have now been handed a boost.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday (30 March) that Rose has been dismissed as head coach of RB Leipzig after a poor run of recent results.

Despite Rose's tenure at Leipzig coming to a premature end, he is still a coach who could help take Rangers to the next level, and their chances of luring him to Ibrox have increased as a result of this update.

Rose can take Rangers to the next level

Previous links between Rangers and Rose may have been wishful thinking, with the German unlikely to voluntarily trade the Bundesliga for the Scottish Premiership.

However, with Rose now out of a job, he may be more likely to take the Rangers job if offered, in what would be a significant coup for the club.

Rose has previously had success at Borussia Monchengladbach, with whom he reached the Champions League knockout stages, and Borussia Dortmund, leading them to second place in the Bundesliga.

The 48-year-old also won the DFB-Pokal with Leipzig in 2023, tasting silverware at a relatively young age for a manager, and certainly should not be discounted as an option.
