Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers takeover update emerges after crushing Rangers developments

Rangers will be hoping the 49ers are successful in their takeover bid, having endured a horrid campaign this time out.

Last weekend’s defeat to Motherwell provided yet another concern at Ibrox, with the current campaign fizzling out in a rather painful manner.

A 16-point gap from Celtic makes it nearly impossible for the Light Blues to achieve league success, leaving them with the Europa League as their only chance of silverware, though given the level of opposition still in the competition, that is unlikely.

With the 49ers takeover of Rangers on the cards, optimism levels have started to rise again, with the Gers hoping to get the investment they need to compete with The Bhoys for trophies again.

Rangers takeover still on track

Should the 49ers takeover go through, Rangers will have a much brighter future ahead of them, and according to a report from the Daily Record, it remains that way.

Via the news outlets’ print edition (3 March, pg49), the report states that the takeover is still “alive” with Andrew Cavenagh “fully committed” to seeing the deal through at Ibrox.

The US-based businessman is said to have been in attendance for several of the Light Blues’ encounters this season and has seen how “fractured and dysfunctional the current regime has become” at Ibrox.

Rangers have failed to keep up with Celtic

Very few would argue against that, with Rangers failing in their attempts to pip Celtic to a league title ever since Steven Gerrard’s departure in 2021 and the lack of identity since the interim appointment of Barry Ferguson.

Since then, several factors have played a key role behind the Rangers regression, with the takeover likely to provide them with a new lease of life.

49ers have a huge task on their hands at Rangers

If they are successful in their bid, which at this stage looks likely, they will face a difficult challenge to get Rangers back on track to where they should be.

A lack of investment and an overwhelming number of poor decisions have been the main reasons behind the regression, and they simply cannot afford to repeat that.

The Light Blues faithful will be desperate to see their team return to its glory days, and the 49ers will be just as keen on making that a reality.
