Hamza Igamane ‘unsettled’ after what happened in Rangers win v Ross County
Hamza Igamane no longer being the focal point for Rangers has been suggested as the reason for his struggles against Ross County.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound [2 February, 4:11pm], Steven Thompson and lead commentator Thomas Duncan discussed Igamane’s lack of impact in the Gers’ 4-0 win at Ibrox, in which he failed to score.
With Thompson bemoaning Igamane routinely giving up possession, Duncan suggested that Cyriel Dessers’ return to the side, pushing the Moroccan into the number 10 role, could be the root cause.
Thompson said: “How many times is he going to give the ball away, Igamane? Virtually every time he’s had it, he’s given it away”.
Duncan replied: “I don’t know if he’s maybe just a wee bit unsettled with the fact that he was leading the line, scoring goals – and now Dessers is back in and scoring goals, playing in that position.”
Hamza Igamane needs to adapt to new Rangers role
You’d be hard-pressed to find a player who is a better candidate than Igamane to be the Light Blues’ Player of the Season, given the impact he’s made since signing from FAR Rabat last summer.
Having started his life at Ibrox as a regular substitute, before coming in to start the odd match out wide and soon displacing Dessers up front, the 22-year-old is now one of the first names on the team sheet.

The fan favourite’s goals and general play as the spearhead of Philippe Clement’s attack have attracted plaudits both north and south of the border, with plenty of big-money transfer links to Premier League clubs.
While that form and the subsequent interest are clear proof of the Gers’ transfer model working as it should, Igamane remains a very raw talent who is still cutting his teeth at Premiership level.
Accommodating Dessers’ return to form and the starting XI means Igamane must learn to play in a deeper role, but given the start he’s made to life at Ibrox, expect him to adapt and start excelling very, very soon.
