Chris Sutton disagreed with Kris Boyd after Mohamed Diomande was sent off as Rangers beat Dundee United 3-1.

The ex-Gers star slammed referee Nick Walsh for his "embarrassing" decision to hand the Ivory Coast midfielder a red card in the 95th minute despite being given a chance to overturn the decision by VAR.

On the other hand, Sutton felt Diomande's apparent slap on Kevin Holt was worthy of a sending-off and backed the referee's call at Tannadice Park on Sunday (26 January).

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (26 January), Boyd said: "Embarrassing. I think sometimes, when you go to the monitor, you can be too stubborn. Sometimes, you've just got to admit you've got it wrong, and Walsh should have. There's no excessive force. There's no brutality. And if I'm Rangers, I would have my appeal in right now.

"You can't slap people in the face. You can't do that. He [Diomande] does slap. I think he does catch him. Walsh was right on the spot there. I think the player has to show discipline himself."

Chris Sutton wrong about Mohammed Diomande red card in Rangers win v Dundee United

The former Celtic ace is wrong about the 23-year-old's red card, but the Ibrox faithful won't be surprised to learn what he's said.

What the Light Blues need to do now is appeal the decision as soon as possible and hope the Scottish FA see some sense.

While the decision won't have an effect on the Bears' next game against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League on Thursday (30 January), they should get it out of the way before then.

Diomande scored the equaliser for Rangers in the first half, which led to the comeback after the break.

The Ivorian star has been instrumental for the Gers over the last few weeks and once again showed his influence.

Robin Propper didn't have the best of games but scored and gave the Light Blues the lead early in the second half before Cyriel Dessers grabbed the third goal in the 86th minute.

It remains to be seen how Diomande's appeal will unfold, and the Glaswegian outfit will rightfully be aggrieved if Walsh's decision is upheld.
