Shebahn Aherne has hit out at "shady" Rangers fans after a Light Blue fan called into talkSPORT to bash Celtic's record in Europe.

Brenden Rodgers' side managed a narrow 1-0 win over Young Boys on Wednesday (22 January), claiming their third win of the Champions League campaign, but that was not enough to impress one rival.

The Gers' Old Firm rivals have often struggled to make an impact in Europe while Philippe Clement's side, on the other hand, have found far more success in the Europa League.

With an upcoming clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday (23 January), that fan will be hoping his words on the air do not come back to haunt him.

After playing a clip of Aherne arguing with a Gers fan, Alan Brazil said live on talkSPORT [23 January, 6:23am]: "Who've you been upsetting? I think the screen nearly punched me then."

Aherne replied: "Just the shady Rangers fans... Anytime you talk about Celtic and something good happening, they need to counter it somehow.

"Rangers play tonight and we'll talk about the result tomorrow. Good luck, Rangers, but give us a minute."

Rangers v Celtic rivalry alive as ever in European clashes

That supporter will now be hoping his team can claim an incredible victory against the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Thursday night, having now been called out live on air for his comments.

The rivalry between the Light Blues and the Hoops is clearly still alive and kicking, even with the two sides not facing each other for another two months.

For now, Clement and his team will only be focusing on the game ahead of them, a tricky trip to Manchester, and the Gers are in a brilliant position to claim an automatic spot in the round of 16.

A victory would take the Light Blues above their Thursday night opponents, which would be an incredible turn of events for a team who are currently 13 points behind their rivals in the Scottish Premiership table.

It has been a rollercoaster of a season for the Gers, but if Clement can manager a positive result over the Premier League giants, he might be able to claw some respect back at Ibrox.
