Alan Brazil was not even entertaining the idea of supporting Rangers as Philippe Clement's side take on Manchester United on Thursday.

The Light Blues travel to Old Trafford on 23 January ahead of, what is expected to be, an extremely entertaining battle against a Premier League giant in the Europa League.

After six matches, the Gers are in a brilliant position to secure an automatic spot in the round of 16, and victory over the Red Devils would put them one step closer to achieving that feat.

Speaking live via talkSPORT [23 January, 6:55am], Shebahn Aherne said: "I'm trying to open your mind to new ideas, like opening your mind to support Rangers in the Europa League tonight and going all the way!

Brazil simply replied: "Don't be stupid."

Can Rangers defeat Manchester United?

Both sides have experienced rollercoaster campaigns so far, with the Gers 13 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership table, but the Europa League has been so different.

Clement's side have only suffered one defeat on the European stage this season, slipping up to Lyon but beating FCSB and Nice, and drawing to Tottenham and Olympiacos since.

That is an incredible change in form compared to their results in domestic competitions, and if the Gers can take a positive result from Old Trafford, Clement might be able to claw some respect back from the fans.

However, Brazil certainly be one of those supporters backing the Light Blues on their travels to Manchester, but that is to be expected from someone who is Celtic through and through.

The Gers can certainly make the talkSPORT host eat his own words, and if it were to happen against the Red Devils, it would be an extremely famous night under the lights in Europe.
